Liverpool have confirmed that Daniel Sturridge has picked up an injury in training.
The England international returned to full fitness earlier this week and gave Liverpool fans optimism after a dreadful start to the season.
However, the former Chelsea man pulled up during a session at Melwood on Tuesday and is now nursing a thigh problem that he had recovered from.
“Liverpool Football Club today confirmed scans have revealed Daniel Sturridge has sustained a new thigh injury,” a club statement read.
“The player will remain unavailable for selection but will be monitored and assessed during his recovery.”
Sturridge has not played for the Reds since the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on August 31, leaving a massive problem up front for Rodgers, having seen Mario Balotelli score just two goals in cup action.
Since arriving at Anfield in a £12 million deal from Chelsea in January 2013, Sturridge has suffered 13 different injuries.
