AC Milan nearly signed Francesco Totti, admits Galliani

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has revealed that the club nearly signed Roma’s Francesco Totti, but found it ‘impossible’.

The attacker has won five trophies over 22 seasons with the Italian capital side and has played for Roma for his entire career.

But, Galliani claims that his career could have taken a different path had a move to Milan materialised years ago.

“We tried to take Totti when he was a boy, he knows it too,” he told reporters. “But we didn’t succeed. We realised immediately that it was impossible to get him to leave Roma.”

The Milan chief then touched on the current situation surrounding Inter Milan, who sacked Walter Mazzarri last week and replaced him with Roberto Mancini.

“He is in a very different situation from that which Mazzarri was in. Pippo is much loved by the fans and I don’t think that we will have problems with him.”
