Wenger: Olivier Giroud may not start on return

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that Olivier Giroud may not go back into the starting eleven upon return from his injury.

The 28-year-old French striker has not featured for the North London side since he was forced to have surgery on a broken tibia in August and has since seen his place in the Arsenal side taken by Danny Welbeck, who signed from Manchester United on deadline day in the summer.

Welbeck’s form has been superb, whilst Alexis Sanchez is also keeping his place in the side after becoming Arsenal’s leading scorer thus far.

“There are no indisputable players at a big club,” Wenger told BEin sports. “There are only players that are in form who play.

“Giroud is a player who is considered as a potential starting XI player, but he is like Welbeck, he is like [Alexis] Sanchez. They need to be in form.”
