Former Man United midfielder: I am not cocky

France midfielder Paul Pogba insists that he was not ‘cocky’ in his country’s 1-1 draw with Albania on Friday.

The former Man United man, now at Juventus, was beaten to a cross by Albania’s Mergim Mavraj as the minnows took a surprise lead in the international friendly, later cancelled out by Antoine Griezmann’s equaliser.

Pogba was made a scapegoat by some media outlets following the game and whilst he acknowledges he could have played better, he insisted he was not ‘cocky’.

“I would say it was a good lesson for me. It’s true that I was on a roll and the game against Albania taught me because you have to get down,” the 21-year-old told reporters. “I was not cocky but you never know.

“Against Albania, it was a tough game. The player I was defending scored; it happens. Not even the best always play good games and it’s a good lesson for me. I know I didn’t give my best, I could have done a lot more, it was a day like that.

“I learnt and I hope the next game I’ll wake up and I’ll give my best and we’ll quickly forget this game against Albania.”
