Manchester City have been informed by Everton that they must pay £60m for Ross Barkley.
The England international put pen to paper on a lucrative extension which runs until 2018 in the summer transfer window to see off interest from Man City, who continue to want a move to happen.
City view the 20-year-old as the long-term successor to talisman Yaya Toure, who is 11 years older and at the peak of his powers.
However, Everton officials have spent Thursday informing the Manchester based club that the England man will cost a fee of £60m if they wish to sign him next summer.
City are unlikely to make a move for Barkley at that price after recent troubles regarding Financial Fair Play limitations.
