Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he is 100% fit for the clash between Portugal and Germany on Monday evening.
The Real Madrid forward was in superb form last season for his club, helping them win both the Copa del Rey and Champions League, but his fitness towards the end of the season and on the approach to the World Cup in Brazil has been a concerning issue for the Portuguese national team.
Minor injuries and trouble with his right knee have seen Ronaldo miss several training sessions, as well as Portugal’s warm up games, but the current Ballon d’Or winner has said that he is fit and raring to go against Germany.
“I wanted to be 110%, but I am 100%. It is enough to help my team,” he says in Spanish daily AS.
“I am used to these unfortunate statements by people, but if am here, it is because I want to help.
“I am the first to tell the coach I cannot play, and I will not jeopardize my career. I am first and then – football.”
Portugal face Germany on Monday, USA on Sunday and then Ghana next Thursday to round of their opening group stage matches.
