Arsenal are 90% certain that Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte is the right signing this January.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his defensive options and has sent scouts on various occasions to the Basque club to monitor the form of Aymeric Laporte.
Whilst Wenger was keen on German defender Mats Hummels, such a move has now been left after Borussia Dortmund demanded a transfer fee of around £31m.
Laporte is now at the forefront of Wenger’s mind and after several meetings with his fellow coaches and the club’s hierarchy – Arsenal are 90% confident that the move it correct and that the signing will be made in January.
The 20-year-old has featured 14 times for the La Liga side this season and for France’s U21 side.
