Higuain flattered by Barcelona links

Gonzalo Higuain has discussed recent interest from Barcelona and welcomed a move to the Camp Nou, despite having played for arch rivals Real Madrid.

Higuain left Madrid last summer to join Italian side Napoli and he has kept up his impressive performances, scoring 24 goals in 44 games under the guidance of Rafael Benitez.

Spanish daily Marca reported over the weekend that Higuain was close to agreeing terms with Barcelona, citing new boss Luis Enrique as a keen admirer of the Argentina international.

And that has led Higuain, currently on international duty at the World Cup, to discuss such reports.

“Of course I would be interested. I enjoy playing with Messi for the national team, ” he told EFE.

“Obviously it would be a great pleasure, but my mind is on the World Cup and that is what I am thinking about.

“I’m flattered by Barca’s interest as any player would be.”

Napoli have since taken to social media site Twitter to dismiss the reports but more reports on Monday have even stated that a fee of £35m has been agreed.
