Per Mertesacker will not consider it a failure if he fails to win the Premier League title with Arsenal.
The German defender is fresh off the back of a World Cup winning campaign with the German national side, but is yet to win a league title during his career.
Joining Arsenal in 2011, the central defender came close to winning the Bundesliga in 2008 when his Werder Bremen side finished runners up and he has spoken of his failure to win a domestic title.
His response however may give Arsenal fans a kick in the teeth as their desire to win the Premier League title continues to grow.
“If I look back on my career without having won a league title, I won’t see that as a failure,” Mertesacker told reporters.
“I’ll do my absolute best to make sure that I can prepare for that eventuality.”
