Pellegrini not bothered by Chelsea rise

Manuel Pellegrini insists he is not worried the gap between Manchester City and Chelsea this early in the season.

Chelsea have been in superb form this season and top the Premier League with a huge gap over their more prominent title contenders and champions Man City, who have slipped eight points behind the Blues after drawing with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday evening.

City have struggled this season to find consistency, having lost in mid-week against Russian side CSKA Moscow, which now sees them on the brink of elimination.

However, boss Manuel Pellegrini is choosing not to focus other factors, including Chelsea, and work on his players.

“I’m not thinking about Chelsea,” he told a post-match media conference. “I am thinking about our team.

“We have a lot of time, we have to play 27 games more. The championship is very long.”

However, the former Real Madrid man did concede that his team need to help Sergio Aguero by scoring goals and creating more chances.

“At this moment he [Aguero] is a very important player for us,” he added. “I always say that Sergio is a top player in the world.

“Maybe he needs the whole performance of the team to grow again.

“I think that it was not our best performance in defence, we must improve, but I don’t divide the team up, we must improve in general.”
