Marotta: Vidal’s Man United move halted by injury

Juventus chief Giuseppe Marotta has admitted Arturo Vidal’s knee problems stopped him joining Manchester United this summer.

Vidal was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer following a good season for Juventus and impressing for his county, however, a reported £50m failed to develop after the midfielder underwent surgery on his right knee just weeks before the World Cup in Brazil.

United still maintain their interest as do Spanish giants Real Madrid but question marks over his fitness remain.

“The injury influenced his departure, even now he doesn’t have the best physical condition,” the Juventus chief said. “For our part, however, there is the clear desire to keep him because we renewed his contract.”

Vidal himself has declared that he is happy to remain with the Serie A club in recent weeks.
