Arsenal held in six-goal thriller by Anderlecht

Arsenal let a 3-0 lead slip to Belgian side Anderlecht on Tuesday night in the Champions League, drawing 3-3 at Emirates stadium.

The visitors had the first chance of the game when Dennis Praet’s shot from distance hit Per Mertesacker and deflected into the side netting.

The chance was somewhat of a wake up call for the Gunners, who then forced a chance through Aaron Ramsey, but the Welshman’s effort was blocked by Chancel Mbemba.

Arsenal broke the deadlock when Danny Welbeck won a penalty, which Mikel Arteta stepped up to convert.

Four minutes later and Arsene Wenger’s side doubled their lead when the in-form Alexis Sanchez smashed home a rebounded free-kick from the edge of the area.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was then next on the scoresheet as his slotted the ball past Silvio Proto.

The 3-0 lead seemed to be enough for Arsenal, but Anthony Vanden Borre tucked home from close range to being a surprise comeback for the Belgian side.

The defender would then score again in the 73rd minute when he converted from the penalty spot following a foul by Nacho Monreal on Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Mitrovic would then complete the turnaround as he lashed a header into the bottom right corner.
