Are Liverpool forcing Steven Gerrard out with pay-cut offer?

Steven Gerrard is edging closer to a summer exit from Liverpool after the club offered him a pay-cut to sign a new deal.

The former England international has been the talk of Merseyside in recent weeks after media, fans and members of the club focused their attention on his current contract.

Gerrard is free to discuss terms with any potential suitors in January as his contract comes to an end, however, the club are keen for him to stay.

But, news of a pay-cut being offered to the midfielder seems to have left Gerrard and his camp feeling hurt and upset after he refused moves to Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona to remain with the club over the years.

Liverpool are keen to offer Gerrard a two-year deal which will see him earn his usual £90,000 a week in the first year and then £60,000 for the second year of his contract.

“Gerrard’s position at Liverpool is under threat, of course. He is unsure that the club want him to stay and is considering leaving next summer,” a source close to the club told us.

“The fans want him to stay, yes, but all the talk of his future is not helping our current performances on the field.”
