Lazio have ramped up their efforts to land Liverpool target Stefan de Vrij, according to fresh reports in the Italian media.

    La Gazzetta dello Sport
claims the Serie A outfit are putting together an offer in the region of £6million for the Holland international, who got his name on the scoresheet in his country’s surprise 5-1 triumph over holders Spain in the World Cup group stage on Friday.

A source close to Anfield told Football Express News the Reds could yet enter into a transfer-tug-of-war for the highly-rated 22-year-old, who is unlikely to discuss his future until the tournament in Brazil is over for the Dutch.

His commanding performance against Spain could see his value rise and he will hope to build on it with further stand-out displays during the competition, which is attended by countless talent scouts.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who guided the Merseyside outfit to a second-place finish last term, is determined to bolster his much-maligned defence after seeing his side’s Premier League title bid ruined by errors at the back.

After suffering a 2-0 home loss to Chelsea in the closing weeks of the 2013-14 campaign, they surrendered a 3-0 lead at Crystal Palace to eventually draw 3-3, conceding three goals in the last 11 minutes of the contest.
