Despite media reports, Football Express News understands that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is yet to make a formal offer for Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss midfielder was a key part of his country’s 2-1 win over Ecuador on Sunday afternoon and was handed the Football Express News Man of the Match award and his performance prompted several reports of a potential offer from Liverpool.

Boss Rodgers has been a keen admirer of the youngster for sometime but failed in a move last summer after he decided to remain with Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, whom he has received more playing time under Pep Guardiola of late.

However, Guardiola’s plans for next season seem to have Shaqiri up for sale, as the former Barcelona boss looks to form his own side at the Allianz Arena.

And, that has led to Liverpool’s most recent interest, however, it is understood that no formal bid has been made to Bayern Munich.

The 22-year-old joined Bayern from Basel in 2012 for a fee of £10m, meaning Liverpool would have to bid more for the talented midfielder.
