Manchester United striker Robin van Persie believes his side can catch Chelsea in the Premier League title race after drawing with the league leaders on Sunday afternoon.

The Dutchman was on hand to rescue a point for United, but the result still sees Louis van Gaal’s side sit 10 points off Jose Mourinho’s men.

However, former Arsenal man Van Persie believes the Old Trafford side can close the gap.

“Of course we can,” he told Sky Sports. “There’s still a long way. It’s still early doors. I think it’s nine or 10 games played. It’s not even halfway, so yes.

“If you come back in a game like this where we are 1-0 down with a minute to go that gives us a boost.

“We should have won today and gained some points back. It didn’t happen but overall we can be happy with a draw.

“In my opinion we are getting better every day – we are better on the ball everyone knows what they need to do. We need to stretch this for longer – we have to aim to play like that for one-and-a-half hours.”
