Liverpool defender told he can leave the club

Glen Johnson has been told by Liverpool that he can discuss terms with a new club.

The England international will see his current deal with Liverpool end next summer and a failure to agree terms on a new deal has now led the Merseyside club to allow him to discuss terms with potential new clubs.

Turkish club Galatasaray, Italian sides Inter Milan and AC Milan have all been interested in the former Portsmouth defender, whilst a hose of Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation.

“I’m very relaxed about my contract,” Johnson said in August. “There are no talks going on with the club at the moment. There were minor talks towards the end of last season but nothing else.

“In January I could [talk to other clubs], but I’ll worry about that when January comes, at the minute I’m playing for Liverpool and I’m happy here. I’m more than willing to stay.”
