Barcelona eye Serie A raid

Cuadrado

Barcelona have entered the race to secure the summer signature of Fiorentina midfielder Juan Cuadrado, according to fresh reports in Italy.

Gazzetta dello Sport
claims the Colombia international, who operates out wide but can also play through the middle, is the subject of strong interest from the Catalan giants.

It comes only days after TuttoSport’s revelation that Serie A champions Juventus are keen to land the 26-year-old, who is co-owned by the Viola and Udinese.

Today’s report points to a difference of opinion in the valuation of the player, with his employers holding out for around £30million while Barca prepare a £20m bid.

Cuadrado is said to have requested a lucrative contract extension which has so far fallen on deaf ears, offering encouragement to his suitors.

He scored 13 goals in 38 appearances for Fiorentina last term while also receiving 12 yellow cards and one red.
Barca are believed to be keen to significantly strengthen their squad after a turbulent 2013-14 campaign which saw them miss out on the La Liga title on the final day, drawing 0-0 with eventual champions Atletico Madrid at the Nou Camp.

They were also beaten by bitter rivals Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, and defeated by Atletico in the Champions League quarter-finals, and head coach Tata Martino departed.

He has been replaced by Luis Enrique, who left Celta Vigo to take the helm.
