Karim Benzema inspired France to an opening day win over a very physical Honduras.

After a scrappy opening couple of minutes, France took full advantage of some dodgy defending by Honduras when Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema both came close.

And, it would be the latter who opening the scoring from the penalty spot after Wilson Palacios hauled down Paul Pogba in the box.

Palacios and Pogba would have several other altercations on the field, which would eventually lead to the former being sent off, following a second yellow card.

France would then add a second shortly after the break when a bizarre moment of correct, incorrect, correct goal-line technology saw Noel Valladares credited with own-goal.

Karim Benzema would then add his second of the game in the 72nd minute after some good work from Patrice Evra and Mathieu Debuchy.

The Real Madrid forward was in superb form and played a big part in helping France top their group, with Switzerland beating Ecuador earliet on Sunday.
