Arsenal vs Hull City Preview: Wenger cautious after FA Cup final test

Arsenal and Hull City face off this weekend in what is a repeat of May’s FA Cup final and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger if wary of the threat posed by Steve Bruce’s side.

Hull have lost their last seven meetings against Arsenal but testing the Gunners in the FA Cup final at Wembley in May, narrowly losing 3-2 after extra-time and Arsene Wenger is remaining cautious in his approach after that particular match.

“When you look at their team-sheet now, it looks like a team that could beat anybody,” Wenger told reporters.

“We expect a tough opponent. They couldn’t use [Nikica] Jelavic in the Cup last season – since then they’ve bought [Mohamed] Diame, [Abel] Hernandez and they’ve bought other good players.”

Arsenal will be without Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud, but both Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry could return to the match-day squad.

Hull remain without keeper Allan McGregor, but could have Ahmed Elmohamady back after he missed Egypt’s African Cup of Nations qualifier with Botswana due to injury.

Steve Bruce’s side face two tough away fixtures on their return from the international break, first against Arsenal and then on the road to Liverpool, whilst Arsenal will face Anderlecht in the Champions League on Wednesday.
