Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender announces retirement

Former Premier League star William Gallas has announced his retirement from football.

The 37-year-old defender played for Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur during his 19-year career but has decided to hang up his boots in Australia following a spell with A-League side Perth Glory.

The Frenchman won the Premier League, League Cup and Community Shield whilst playing for Chelsea and also won the Confederations Cup for the French national team, making 84 caps for his country during his career.

Gallas told L’Equipe: “It is not an easy thing to announce. You always tell yourself that you can keep going, but, I think today I cannot go on any longer.”
