Guardiola eyeing Man United role

Pep Guardiola has revealed in his latest book that he would like to manage Manchester United during is career.

The Bayern Munich coach is arguably the most successful coach of recent times, having won 14 trophies during a four-year spell with La Liga club Barcelona and he has since gone on to replicate similar success with the Bundesliga giants.

The 43-year-old has long been linked with a move to Manchester United and was favourite to replace Sir Alex Ferguson when the Scot called time on his career with the English club.

However, David Moyes was installed as boss, later replaced by another former Barca and Bayern boss Louis van Gaal.

Now, in the book Pep Confidential, written by Marti Perarnau, the coach revealed that he would like to manage at Old Trafford in the future.

Perarnau writes: “[Guardiola] was impressed [by Bayern’s training facilities, Sabener Strasse] and told [assistant] Manuel Estiarte privately: ‘I like this. I could see myself coaching here one day.’

“Pep had said something very similar a few months before, at Manchester United. The day after beating Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, Guardiola and Estiarte travelled to Manchester to watch their next opponents in action.

“It was May 4, 2011, and the pair sat together in the stands of Old Trafford watching Sir Alex Ferguson’s team beat Schalke 4-1. Once again Pep had turned to his friend and said: ‘I like this atmosphere. I could see myself coaching here one day.’

“Guardiola has always felt a deep admiration, almost veneration, for the legendary teams and players of Europe.”
