Bayern Munich midfielder Thaiago Alcantara faces a lengthy spell on the side-lines after picking up a ligament injury, his club have confirmed.
The 23-year-old is expected to be out for a significant amount of time and will have an operation after tearing a ligament in training.
The Spanish international is yet to feature for Bayern this season and has struggled with injury ever since his move from Barcelona in 2013. Last season, after an impressive start, he managed just 16 appearances.
“Devastating: @Thiago (23) has suffered a ligament tear in training. He needs an operation and is set for another lengthy absence,” Bayern tweeted from their official account.
