Henderson: Vice-captaincy will not change me

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has insisted that being given the responsibility of ‘vice-captain’ at Liverpool will not change who he is.

The England international has been in superb form this season for club and country and has been rewarded for his performances by being given the vice-captain of Liverpool after Daniel Agger left the club in the summer.

But, the midfielder has insisted that his attitude and performances will not change, nor will he take his role for granted.

“[The vice-captaincy] won’t change how I am,” Henderson told the club’s official magazine. “Just because I’m vice-captain now doesn’t mean I’m going to be captain in the future. I’m not taking anything for granted.

“The manager explained to me that he’d given the vice-captaincy a lot of consideration, but he didn’t put any pressure on me. He wants me to crack on and carry on playing the way I have been for Liverpool and hopefully grow and improve again over time.”
