Carrick closing in on Man United return

Michael Carrick is closing in on a return to first team action as he sets his sights on a behind-closed doors training match this Tuesday, according to Goal.

Carrick has been unavailable this season after suffering an ankle injury during United’s pre-season tour of the United States in July.

But the midfielder returned to initial training earlier in September and has been working his way back to full fitness.

It is understood that Carrick will now take part in an hour-long training match, featuring numerous players from the first team and from the youth squad.

Boss Louis van Gaal hopes that Carrick will be available for the game against West Brom on Monday night at the Hawthorns.
