Wenger: Giroud return ahead of schedule

Arsene Wenger is expecting Olivier Giroud to return from his broken foot sooner than expected for Arsenal.

The French striker damaged his foot in the 2-2 draw against Everton in August and was given a return date of January by the club’s doctors.

Since his injury, Arsenal have seen the likes of Mesut Ozil and Laurent Koscielny also ruled out, giving Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger a huge selection problem.

However, the French boss has given Gunners fans some good news after it now seems Giroud will return sooner than his original return date.

“Olivier Giroud is recovering very well,” he told beIN Sports. “I believe he is ahead of schedule in terms of rehabilitation. The operation went perfectly.”

Wenger also went on to discuss the potential partnership of Giroud and £16m man Danny Welbeck.

He added: “Welbeck and [Giroud] can play together in the centre or separately.

“Welbeck also played on one side to Manchester United. Welbeck played in the same team with [Wayne] Rooney and [Robin] van Persie. He can play down the sides.”
