Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is leading the race to sign Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Football Express News understands.
The Dutch striker is out of contract next summer and has been placed on the transfer market by the Bundesliga club for a small figure of £3m, which has led numerous sides across Europe and the Middle East to show interest.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs have been mentioned as the biggest admirers from England and it is believed that the latter have already begun discussions with the German side over his availability in January.
Huntelaar, who represented his country in the World Cup this summer has struggled for form so far this season, having been helpless to see Jens Keller keep his job and be replaced by former Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo.
Di Matteo is keen to keep hold of the former AC Milan striker but knows he may be forced to sell for a fee, rather than allow him to leave for free next summer.
