Redknapp: Biggest regret not signing Luis Suarez for Spurs

Harry Redknapp has confirmed in his latest book that his biggest regret in football was not signing Luis Suarez whilst manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

The English coach reportedly had the chance to sign Uruguayan striker Suarez whilst he was playing for Ajax but was beaten to the signing by Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Suarez has since gone on to perform for Liverpool and join Catalan side Barcelona, but serves a ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini in the World Cup finals in Brazil.

However, despite his career highs and lows, Redknapp regrets not pushing through a bid.

“Despite all that has happened in his career since, one of the biggest regrets of my life in management is not taking Luis Suarez to Tottenham when we had the chance,” he wrote.

“‘You’ve got to take him, Harry,’ Ruud Gullit told me. ‘He’s fantastic.’

“Yet all of our scouts’ reports said that at Ajax he played wide off a striker, whereas we were looking for a proper front man.

“Just when I was on the verge of taking the plunge, the price went up. In the end he was sold for £22.8million to Liverpool.”
