Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is hoping Barcelona remain in La Liga, even if they gain independence from Spain.
The autonomous region of Catalonia is set to vote on independence in a referendum on November 22nd, but LFP president Javier Tebas has claimed that the club will be forced to withdraw from La Liga should they be set free from Spain.
But, Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is hoping such does not happen and feels it important that the 22-time league winners remain in the league.
“We need Barcelona to stay in the league,” Benzema told a press conference. “That’s what football is all about – two great teams like Madrid and Barca playing against each other.
“If they need to leave La Liga then that would be a problem so I hope things stay as they are.”
