Man United midfielder said ‘no’ to Barcelona move

Football Express News understands that Juan Mata rejected a summer switch from Manchester United to Barcelona.

The Spanish midfielder joined United in January 2014 but has failed to live up to the expectations on his shoulders which came following consistent performances for Valencia, Chelsea and the Spanish national side over recent years.

Reports linking Mata with a summer exit were heavy in the summer with the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Atletico Madrid and former club Valencia all keen.

However, Barcelona were also keen on signing the Spanish international and it is understood that a lucrative bid was made by the Catalan side.

Barca boss Luis Enrique was keen to replace Cesc Fabregas, who left for Chelsea following the World Cup in Brazil and made a move for Mata.

But, the midfielder rejected the chance to join the club and stay at United, where he was keen to impress new boss Louis van Gaal.
