Sir Alex Ferguson: Kagawa better off away from Man United

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says that Shinji Kagawa gave up on his future at the club after Juan Mata was signed from Chelsea.

Ferguson signed the Japanese international from Borussia Dortmund in 2012, but the playmaker moved back to the Bundesliga in August after failing to break into the first team at Old Trafford.

And, Ferguson believes that the signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea hampered any chance of the midfielder improving at the English club.

“Every manager has his own philosophy. When Moyes signed the Spanish superstar Mata, Kagawa felt that he no longer was the first choice, and gave up a hope a bit,” he told Bild.

Ferguson then claimed that Kagawa is now better off with Dortmund.

“I was very satisfied with Shinji,” he added. “He settled well, and I had the feeling that he felt comfortable.

“I believe that BVB and Kagawa did everything right. Shinji is back in surroundings in which he feels like a fish in the water.

“And in Klopp he has a coach who can provide him with the necessary confidence.”
