England newbie Clyne ready to win place

Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne has spoken about his determination to secure a regular spot in Roy Hodgson’s England squad.

The 23-year-old has been in superb form of late and has really come out of his shell so to speak under the management of Ronald Koeman at St. Marys, earning him a call-up to the England senior side for the first time in his career.

Clyne is expected to play in the Euro 2016 qualifying games against San Marino and Estonia, having been the only out and out right-back selected by Hodgson.

And, he is determined to secure a regular spot in the senior squad.

“I need to go there and the training sessions and show what I am about and hopefully I will get my chance and start for England,” ESPN quotes Clyne.

“The aim is to take step by step but I am not here for fun and games. I am here to nail my colours to the mast and hopefully I will take that right-back position and make it my own.

“I am not really focused on who is in or who is out, who is injured or not. I am just focusing on myself and if I am doing well then hopefully I will get a chance, like I have done, and play well when I get an opportunity.”

England will take on San Marino at Wembley on Thursday.
