Terry: We are in control of the group

Chelsea captain John Terry believes his side are now back in control of their group after beating Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night.

Nemanja Matic’s first half strike was enough to give Jose Mourinho’s side all three points and top Group G, making them in pole position to qualify for the knock-out stages and Terry has discussed how important victory at the Estadio Jose Alvalade was.

“We had to come here and win tonight and we got it. It puts us top of the group and in control again,” he told Sky Sports News.

However, the former England captain also rued his side’s missed chances and believes that the game should have been killed off.

“Sporting are a good side and it was a big night for them.

“We had so many chances to kill it off, but it was just one of those nights where it didn’t quite go in for us.”
