Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Basel on Wednesday.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was hoping Sturridge could be fit in time to face the Swiss side after a hamstring problem that he has sustained with the England national side two weeks ago.
Sturridge, however, will not travel to Switzerland and instead, remain at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground in a bid to be fit in time for the Premier League tie with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday at Anfield.
Mamadou Sakho, who controversially left Liverpool’s game with Everton early at the weekend is not in the squad and will instead remain in Liverpool.
Wednesday’s game with Basel sees Liverpool looking to make it two wins out of two, having beaten Ludogorets 2-1 on the opening match-day.
