Former Man United defender bemoans Sir Alex retirement

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has bemoaned the loss of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex ended his successful 27-year reign at Old Trafford in 2013 and the club have since struggled to maintain the same level of performance and success that the Scottish boss delivered at the club.

David Moyes was chosen as Ferguson’s replacement but a disastrous spell under the former Everton boss saw United fail to qualify for European competition and Moyes left his position, replaced by Dutch boss Louis van Gaal, who is yet to impress, despite having spent big on the likes of Radamel Falcao, Angel di Maria and Marcos Rojo.

Evra, now of Juventus, has explained how Ferguson’s departure left United damaged and that the club continues to find it hard without him.

“Ferguson was at the heart of everything. He made sure United was a family, with a culture for winning,” Evra told reporters.

“I’ve suffered a lot for Moyes, a great person, but even with [Ryan] Giggs things were different. For this club, you have to sacrifice everything. That’s the kind of culture I’ve found at Juve.”
