Evra: Sir Alex wanted me to convince Pogba to stay

Patrice Evra has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson asked him to convince Paul Pogba to remain at Manchester United.

The French international joined Juventus in 2012 after falling out with the Scottish boss due to a lack of first-team opportunities but he has since established himself as one of the most talented young midfielder player’s in Europe.

Evra, who himself joined Juventus this summer, has revealed that Sir Alex spoke with him in a bid to convince the youngster to stay in Manchester.

“La Pioche [Pogba] is like a son to me,” he told La Repubblica.

“Ferguson sent me to his house to convince him to stay. He cried, he couldn’t sleep. He knew he could become greater than [Patrick] Vieira, but he had decided.

“Ferguson also knew Pogba could become very strong, but he couldn’t force the issue.”
