FT: Colombia 3-0 Greece

JAMES-RODRIGUEZ-800x500

James Rodriguez inspired Colombia to a 3-0 win over Greece in their opening World Cup match in Belo Horizonte.

The South American side opened the scoring within five minutes after Pablo Armero arrived in the box following good work and a neat cut- back from Juan Cuadrado to tap home.

Greece almost responded quickly but Panagiotis Kone could only send his effort wide of the goal, but his effort served as a start to a free-flowing attacking game.

Monaco forward James Rodriguez was making up for the absence of Radamel Falcao in the Colombia side as he twisted and turned the Greek defence on numerous occasions.

Whilst, down the other end Kone would once again have an effort on goal but his shot would only sting the palms of David Ospina, who turned the ball wide for a corner.

Colombia came out in the second half in similar fashion to their first, and they extended their lead through Teofilo Gutierrez, who poached at the back post to send 90% of the crowd into raptures.

Theofanis Gekas then hit the woodwork with a close range header, before a quick counter attack saw Cuadrado link well with James Rodriguez, who put his effort into the bottom corner to round of a good win for Jose Pekerman’s side.
