Hummels says the fight back starts now

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels claims suggestions his side are suffering a mini-crises are an exaggeration after rivals Schalke defeated them in the 145th Revierderby.

Hummels played 85 minutes in his return to the starting line-up following an injury lay-off but could not inspire his side to get back to winning ways, following a return of one point from three games.

“We have simply endured eight bad days and the comeback trail starts on Wednesday in Anderlecht,” said the German international. “We are not where we want to be just now.”

Aside from the indifferent form in the Bundesliga this season that see’s the Schwarzgelben lying in the bottom half of the table, Dortmund were electric in their opening group game of the Champions League against Arsenal in a game they convincingly won 2-0.

After the derby manager Jürgen Klopp admitted that his side “gave Schalke a helping hand for both of their goals” Hummels admits that the current defensive pattern of conceding too many goals needs to be irradiated.

He added: “We can’t keep on shipping goals in every game. We will cut it out. We have no alternative.”

Following a late rally midweek at the Signal Iduna Park, where Dortmund battled back from two goals down to draw with lowly Stuttgart, Klopp knows his side need to start turning good performances into wins.

Klopp said: “The team has quality, a strong character and is mentally strong. We will be back.”
