Celtic striker Griffiths linked with Easter Road return

Leigh Griffiths could be poised for another move to Hibernian in an emergency loan deal.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Dundee man failed to make the substitutes bench for the Scottish champions 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell on Sunday and has now been linked with a move back to his hometown club.

Hibs manager Alan Stubbs attempted to bring fans’ favourite Griffiths back to Edinburgh before the transfer deadline only to see the move blocked due to Celtic allowing temporary moves away for Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde to Brondby and Beveren respectively.

But with Parkhead manager Ronny Deila having purchased £2.3m striker Stefan Scepovic from Sporting Gijon and signing John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, Deila may now allow Griffiths to leave the club.

During his time with Wolves Griffiths spent two years on loan to Hibs where he scored 31 goals in 66 games, something that made him a fans favourite with the Easter Road faithful.

The 24-year-old was bought in by former Celtic manager Neil Lennon for £1m from Wolves in January and the lifelong Hibs fan was recently seen watching Stubbs’ Championship team beat Cowndenbeath.
