Chile beat Australia 3-1 on Friday night to go level on points with Netherlands at the Arena Pantanal.

The South American side entered the tournament as many people’s underdogs and they got off to a perfect start when Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez was on hand to tap home from close range.

The tricky winger has been in superb form in 2014 and entered the World Cup on the back of his best ever scoring season in domestic football and he provided the second of his country, just moments later when he turned his marker before finding Jorge Valdivia.

The midfielder then hit a superb right footed effort past the Australian keeper to make it 2-0 after 15 minutes.

The Aussies did manage to force their way back into the game when Tim Cahill out jumped Gary Medel and headed past a helpless Claudio Bravo.

But, the tie was ended when Wigan Athletic man Jean Beausejour hit a sweet strike from 20 yards in the closing stages.
