Football Express News understands that Chelsea have taken the first steps to beat Liverpool to the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Julian Brandt.
Reports earlier this week claimed that both Chelsea and Liverpool were showing increased interest in the 18-year-old midfielder and whilst that may be the case, it is now understood that the former have taken the first steps in securing his services.
Brandt has made a real impression in the Bundesliga of late, making his senior debut for Leverkusen last season.
And, his performances have quickly gained plaudits from both Jose Mourinho and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, prompting a transfer battle.
Rodgers has sent several scouts over to Germany in recent weeks to cast an eye over the German youngster, but we understand that Mourinho is keen to beat Liverpool to the signing and blood the young midfielder as a future Chelsea midfielder.
