Guardiola delighted with Man City win

Pep Guardiola spoke of his delight after his Bayern Munich side scored an 89th minute winner against Manchester City in their Champions League opener on Wednesday evening.

The Bundesliga champions found it hard to beat resilient City keeper Joe Hart, who was forced to make a string of top class saves to deny both Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski.

But, Jerome Boateng’s deflected strike late on gave the Germans the victory and one that could prove very important as the group progresses.

Guardiola was delighted with his side, speaking to Sky Sports about the win, whilst heaping praise on Brazilian full-back Rafinha and central defender Mehdi Benatia.

“Everybody is happy we have our first three points in this hard group. We had many chances against a very good team.

“At the start we had some problem with the possession. We then switched from three at the back to four at the back and it got better.

“You have to understand that Rafinha and Benatia have played very little recently. They played well and showed big heart. Sometimes it is the mind that makes the difference. If somebody really wants to play, he can play.”
