Former Arsenal winger not worried by Man City

Former Arsenal winger Gervinho is confident his Roma side can beat off the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City after thumping CSKA Moscow 5-1 on Wednesday.

Roma have been under somewhat of a resurgence of late, testing Juventus for the Serie A title last season and started the season with two wins in two games.

And, they started their Champions League campaign in superb style with a thumping win over Russian side CSKA Moscow; a result which Ivorian forward Gervinho says will prove worrying for upcoming opponents Bayern Munich and Man City.

“We were not expecting an easy match, Champions League games are never easy,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “It was not an easy game. Roma put in a great performance, playing well in both halves of the game.

“I do not worry about Man City and Bayern Munich – my concern is never my opponents, but only my team.”

Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic also discussed his side’s rise both in Italy and Europe of late, saying his side have matured well.

“For us it was important to win, we played well and finished lots of our chances,” the Bosnian midfielder told Mediaset Premium.

“Our quality has paid off, we played really well. Certainly, there is plenty of quality in the Champions League and so many teams play openly like we do.

“The group is very difficult so to win three points this evening may already be decisive in reaching the last 16.

“It was a test of maturity tonight – in the summer we reinforced with players of quality and we have a more complete side. We are stronger than we were last season.”
