Football Express News understand that FC Porto midfielder Fernando has passed his medical with Manchester City and completion of the deal, which is reported to be in the region of £15M, is imminent.

The 26-year Brazilian has been a target for the Manchester giants for some time and was previously subject to a failed bid of £14.5M, which was made by the club earlier this year in the January transfer window.

Fernando’s move to the current Premier League title-holders will see him start next season under boss Manuel Pellegrini and play alongside fellow Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho, who joined City last year.

The player moved from homeland Brazil to Europe in 2007 on his signing of a five-year deal with Primeira Liga side FC Porto. He spent his first season in Portugal on loan to CF Estrela da Amadora and from 2008 he has featured as a first team regular for Porto.

Last season he made 45 appearances for the club including 25 Primeira Liga, six Champions League and five Europa League fixtures.

Both Manchester City and FC Porto are expected to announce the completion of Fernando’s transfer over the weekend.
