Arsenal look to make a quick deal for Serbian striker Nikola Zigic in order to reinforce their front-line in the wake of Olivier Giroud’s injury blow.
With Arsenal’s key striker absent in what is set to be long-term injury leave of at least six months, the club are faced with the pressing task of making the necessary adaptations to their front-line and have cast their attentions to ex-Birmingham City man Zigic.
The player’s agent Milan Calasan has confirmed the Gunners’ interest in his client, who is currently unemployed owing to his release from Birmingham at the end of last season. A short-term proposal is believed to be in the process of being put together for the striker, who at 33, would bring experience to the Arsenal attack-force.
Calasan said his client will need to make a quick decision, acknowledging the fact Arsenal are in a hurry to fill the void left by their injured French forward. He also made it clear the player has other options to consider.
He told Sky Sports: “It is true. Wenger called me on Tuesday afternoon and told me that he wants to bring Zigic to Arsenal.
“It is clear that you cannot reject an offer like that. But Zigic is the one who must decide. He must say what he wants.
“But Wenger was clear, he is offering a contract until the end of the season with the option for another 12 months.
“I know that Arsenal are in a hurry, but Nikola also has offers from Turkey and Switzerland.”
With the Serbian believed to be undertaking a medical assessment in north London Arsenal this afternoon, it looks as though he has already made his decision about where he wishes to spend his immediate future – at The Emirates.
