Wenger defends Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger has defended Alexis Sanchez he was hauled off at half-time in the 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday.

The Gunners came from behind at Goodison Park on Saturday to rescue a point, but Chilean forward Alexis was hauled off at half-time and replaced by Olivier Giroud.

However, despite some concerns from the club’s fans and media, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has backed the former Barcelona man to come back fighting and move forward from his underwhelming performance.

“You do not convict a player on one half,” Wenger told reporters. “It was not all bad. There was some quality in what he did. I just felt, on the day, we needed some more physical presence.”

Giroud picked up an ankle injury in the final minute of the draw at Goodison Park and is now looking to be out for several months, but Wenger believes he has plenty of options in the attacking area.

“In England as soon as you have a problem people want you to buy,” the Gunners boss added. “I can give you clubs with plenty of players who every time they lose say they have to buy more. But if you give the number of strikers we have it is unbelievable.”
