Hamburg make approach for Tottenham midfielder

Bundesliga side Hamburg are preparing to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby, according to fresh reports.

The German side are looking for a replacement for Rafael Van Der Vaart who has been linked with QPR for a possible reunion with manager Harry Redknapp.

Holtby has found first-team starts hard to come by at White Hart Lane since his move from Schalke over 18 months ago. He was sent on loan to relegation battlers Fulham for the second half of last season, but was unable to help the Cottagers avoid the drop to the Championship.

The Germany international is one of a number of players at Tottenham who have been told that they can leave the club this summer and according to Goal, talks between Spurs and Hamburg have already taken place with options for a loan arrangement or permanent deal being thrashed out.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is busy preening his squad before the transfer deadline and is understood to be willing to let Holtby leave the club, as the 23-year-old appears to be behind Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli in the pecking order at Spurs.

Another Tottenham player set to leave the club in the next 24 hours is defender Michael Dawson – who undertook his medical at Hull City today. An announcement confirming the completion of his proposed £3m switch to Steve Bruce’s side is imminent.
