Barcelona boss warns Elche of buoyant mood

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has issued a warning to Sunday’s opponents Elche about the ‘buoyant mood’ of his squad.

The Catalan side have had a different pre-season that normal, having remained in Europe, playing the likes of Helsinki, Nice, Napoli and Club Leon.

And, following their 6-0 drubbing of the latter on Monday evening, new boss Luis Enrique has given a warning to Sunday night’s opponents Elche that they could be in for a similar beating.

The Camp Nou will await a new-look Barcelona, who have signed the likes of Claudio Bravo, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Thomas Vermaelen and Luis Suarez.

He told reporters: “It has been a great week in terms of the team dynamic and we are going into the game in the same buoyant mood as we did before the Gamper.

“We may have high hopes for the future, but we’re more concerned with the present, and that means the game with Elche.

“We’re mentally prepared for this and keen to get our League campaign off to a winning start.”

Sunday’s clash at the Camp Nou gets under way at 8pm English time.
