Di Maria to complete £60m United move in next 24 hours

Angel Di Maria

The mammouth summer 2014 transfer saga surrounding Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria is coming to its finale just a week before closure of the window, with Manchester United on the brink of sealing the deal for a princely sum of £60m, according to Sky Sports sources.

This could be an all-time record breaker for not just Manchester United but English football in general and the player is reported to have snubbed United’s local rivals Manchester City, who were in a position to pay similar amounts of cash in order to secure the player they are also understood to have been in hot pursuit of this summer.

It was Sky Sports Spanish football correspondent Guillem Balague who made the revelations in the last 24 hours, he said: “As soon as Di Maria knew of Manchester United’s interest he was very excited about the possibility of coming to Old Trafford.”

Further fuel was added to the speculation when United’s new signing, defender Marcos Rojo, who plays with Di Maria in the Argentina national team, ‘liked’ an Instragram photo of himself and the winger together with a Manchester United background.

Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo also claim that Real Madrid have sanctioned a move for the player away from the club and that Di Maria will travel to Manchester in the next 24 hours to finalise the deal.

It is highly anticipated that once the imminent transfer is complete, the Argentine winger will wear the legendary No.7 Man United shirt which has been worn by Red Devils icons in previous years, including Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.
