Hull prepare record-breaking bid for striker

Hull City are preparing to break their transfer record in order to sign their long-desired target, Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes.

Hull boss Steve Bruce is aiming to seal move for the Scotland international by offering an initial £8m with further add-ons which could bolster the package to £12m – the highest fee the Tigers have ever spent on one player.

The Humberside club are believed to be planning to fund the deal with the cash they received from the sale of Shane Long to Southampton, who Rhodes is set to replace.

Rhodes only renewed his contract with Blackburn last month and the Championship club are looking to recoup the £8m they paid to Huddersfield Town for the 24-year-old two years ago.

He has an incredible goal-scoring record for the Rovers that averages out to more than a goal every two games, with 52 strikes in 96 appearances.

The Scot had been linked with a move to the KC Stadium last year, but Hull reportedly retracted their talks owing to his salary demands of £45,000 a-week being more then they could afford to pay. But, following the sale of Long to the Saints, the Tigers are in their strongest position to date and able to sign the highly-rated forward at last.

Meanwhile, The Sun are reporting that Hull are also trying to acquire Rotherham United midfielder Ben Pringle and are ready to offer £2.5m for the ex-Derby County player who starred for Steve Evans’ side as they gained promotion to the Championship last season.
